We articulate the aspirations of Filipino migrant women in the Netherlands
In March 1994, a group of us, Filipino women living in the Netherlands, came together to listen to the stories of women’s lives in the Philippines. These stories were shared with us by a representative from GABRIELA, the national alliance of over 250 grassroots women’s organizations, desks, and programs, and service institutions working for the genuine emancipation of women in the Philippines.
Inspired by the experiences of women in the Philippines and wanting to support the work of GABRIELA, at the same time recognizing our own realities as migrants and as women and desiring to organize among our ranks to respond to our own needs and issues, we established Pinay sa Holland – GABRIELA.
