Our projects and activities
Donate to the storm victims in the Philippines
Campaign description
This campaign aims to raise funds primarily via the proceeds from a benefit concert, supplemented by online and offline donations.
Our goal
Raise funds for the massive relief and rehabilitation efforts for the poorest and most vulnerable victims of flooding and landslides in the Philippines caused by the tropical storm Ondoy (Ketsana) and super-typhoon Pepeng (Parma). We want to focus on direct support for children, women, elderly and differently-abled.
Time frame
Oct. 26 – Nov. 29, 2009
Beneficiaries
The Citizens’ Disaster Response Center (CDRC) and the Philippine National Red Cross.
1. All offline and online donations plus 50% of the proceeds from the benefit concert will be sent to the Citizens’ Disaster Response Center (CDRC), a non-government organization organized in 1984,which pioneered and continues to promote community-based disaster management in the Philippines.
- CDRC operates nationwide through a network of regional centers affiliated with the Citizens’ Disaster Response Network and through people’s organizations.
- CDRC focuses its assistance to the most affected, least served and most vulnerable sectors of the population through preparedness and mitigation, emergency relief, and rehabilitation programs.
- CDRC responds to minor disasters and major emergencies, among these are the 1990 Luzon earthquake, the Mt. Pinatubo disaster in 1991, super typhoon Rosing (Angela) in 1995, the Payatas garbage avalanche, and the long-running armed conflict in Mindanao.
- CDRC is a founding member and Chair of the Global Forum of NGOs for Disaster Reduction (GFNDR). GFNDR is a parallel organization to, and working closely with, the United Nations’ International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction (IDNDR)

2. 50% of the proceeds from the benefit concert will go to the Philippine National Red Cross.
Why two beneficiaries?
We want to help in two ways. We want to aid in immediate national relief operations provided by Red Cross, and concurrently support community-based disaster management and rehabilitation initiatives provided by CDRC.
What is our target amount?
At least €8,000 (est. 520,000 Philippine Pesos)
How do we plan to achieve this?
- PSH aims to raise 2,000 Euros by leveraging off- and online social networks to collect donations from individuals, groups or companies.
- PSH aims to raise at least 6.000 Euros by organising a benefit concert that will showcase former casts of the highly-acclaimed Broadway musicals like “Miss Saigon”, “Lion King” and “Tarzan”.
- PSH hopes to raise even more funds by approaching organisations that can double the amount we’ve raised.
The best way to show your support is to attend our benefit concert. But if you can’t make it and still want to help, you can always donate online or offline via our members. Of course, financial support is not the only way to lend a hand: you can help us spread the word by promoting this campaign on your own website, blog, Facebook page, Twitter, Friendster, Hyves or any other social network.
